Bellagio Conservatory Review

Winter Wonderland
Each year, the Conservatory showcases a new holiday display. This year’s features a snowman family made up of 15,000 white carnations. Set in a wintery landscape, the family is dressed in brightly colored hats, scarves, coats and earmuffs.
In addition to the snowmen, the conservatory also features six pecan-encrusted “flying” reindeer wearing yokes made of cranberry-red dried botanicals. Another fun animal display includes a 7-foot-tall, custom-sculpted rocking horse.
The Conservatory would not be complete without its towering holiday tree. Adorned with 12,000 colorful lights and twinkling jewels, the 32-foot-tall Shasta fir tree makes the perfect centerpiece. The “floating” gigantic ornaments surrounding the tree provide the finishing touch.
Guests can enjoy the Conservatory’s winter wonderland from Dec. 7, 2008 through Jan. 3, 2009.

With Executive Director of Horticulture Audra Danzak at the helm, the Bellagio has crafted its very own masterpiece in its conservatory.

Beneath a 55-foot-tall glass ceiling, elaborate floral arrangements fill the bright, airy atrium with eye-catching color and rich fragrance. The epitome of beauty and elegance, the botanical gardens encompass approximately 14,000 square feet and provide an endless array of photo opportunities.

Every two weeks, each flower in the room is replaced by an expert crew of horticulturalists. A staff of 129 design and maintain the botanical garden; 24 people are in and out of the exhibit daily to feed, water and replace any plants where necessary. Flowers for the Bellagio Conservatory are imported from all across North America and temporarily kept in an on-site greenhouse which serves as a staging area.

The Bellagio Conservatory changes along with the seasons five times a year - Chinese New Year, Spring Celebration, Summer Garden Party, Harvest Show and Holiday Show. All themes are unique and built from the ground up. In fact, only three of the trees in the conservatory are permanent fixtures, every thing else is completely replaced as the exhibits rotate.

Unique features of the immense garden are winding pathways affording guests a closer view of the abundant foliage and numerous water features. In addition, a portion of the dining area at Cafe Bellagio faces the garden, providing exquisite scenery.

The conservatory is conveniently located next to the parking garage, restrooms and lobby. To further enhance your visit, be sure to pick up a brochure detailing the display at either the front desk or concierge. Brochures are available two weeks after each exhibit's debut.

And while you're in the area, check out the stunning "Fioro di Como," a glass sculpture by artist Dale Chihuly, commissioned exclusively for Bellagio. The colorful sculpture is located above the front desk lobby and features more than 2,000 individually blown glass pieces.
