Bellagio Conservatory Review

Spring comes into bloom
From March 14 - May 9, the Bellagio Conservatory presents its spring showcase with a colorful floral display and for the first time ever, large scale bronze sculptural ants. Four enchanting gardens provide a lush landscape for these bronze ants. Resting below two towering yellow jonquils, guests can climb on top of the 8,500-pound queen ant for photo opportunities. This queen ant also provides a vantage point for viewing the botanical snails and bumblebees as well as brightly-colored tulips, poppies, daisies, mums and daffodils. Steps away, three 10-foot-long ants stand at the mouth of a 15-foot-tall flower pot, which overflows with rainbow-hued blooms. A beautiful spring butterfly rests atop the flower pot, with bumblebees made of preserved sunflowers "flying" in mid-air. The enchanted garden also features five giant mushrooms. Ranging from five to 15 feet tall, the mushrooms provide a natural canopy for the pair of 6-foot-tall ants found below. Visitors can also see a French garden and 10 potted olive trees, each more than 100 years old. Over the years, these ancient olive trees have been carefully sculpted into oversized bonsai presentations. From oversized mushrooms, bees and ants to the beautiful blooms bursting with color, the enchanting spring display at the Bellagio Conservatory is sure to create a buzz. |
With Executive Director of Horticulture Audra Danzak at the helm, the Bellagio has crafted its very own masterpiece in its conservatory.
Beneath a 55-foot-tall glass ceiling, elaborate floral arrangements fill the bright, airy atrium with eye-catching color and rich fragrance. The epitome of beauty and elegance, the botanical gardens encompass approximately 14,000 square feet and provide an endless array of photo opportunities.
Every two weeks, each flower in the room is replaced by an expert crew of horticulturalists. A staff of 129 design and maintain the botanical garden; 24 people are in and out of the exhibit daily to feed, water and replace any plants where necessary. Flowers for the Bellagio Conservatory are imported from all across North America and temporarily kept in an on-site greenhouse which serves as a staging area.
The Bellagio Conservatory changes along with the seasons five times a year - Chinese New Year, Spring Celebration, Summer Garden Party, Harvest Show and Holiday Show. All themes are unique and built from the ground up. In fact, only three of the trees in the conservatory are permanent fixtures, every thing else is completely replaced as the exhibits rotate.
Unique features of the immense garden are winding pathways affording guests a closer view of the abundant foliage and numerous water features. In addition, a portion of the dining area at Cafe Bellagio faces the garden, providing exquisite scenery.
The conservatory is conveniently located next to the parking garage, restrooms and lobby. To further enhance your visit, be sure to pick up a brochure detailing the display at either the front desk or concierge. Brochures are available two weeks after each exhibit's debut.
And while you're in the area, check out the stunning "Fioro di Como," a glass sculpture by artist Dale Chihuly, commissioned exclusively for Bellagio. The colorful sculpture is located above the front desk lobby and features more than 2,000 individually blown glass pieces.
