Emerging from the San Francisco music scene in the '60s, Santana quickly became a major success by the end of the decade and continued his career into the early '70s. Enjoying local success, the band launched into super stardom when they performed hits off of their debut album at the Woodstock festival on Aug. 15, 1969.
On the heels of earning their first Top 10 single with their debut album's "Evil Ways," the band released their second record titled "Abraxas" in 1970. Even more successful than the first, this sophomore album hit No. 1 on the strength of the huge hits "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Como Va."
Evolving band members over the years, Carlos Santana spearheaded the group to commercial success over the next quarter-century. The band was still selling many records into the '80s including the 1981 album "Zebop!," which featured a top 20 single "Winning."
While continuing to release music, the group's fanfare remained quiet until "Supernatural" was released in 1999. Featuring appearances by guest stars including Wyclef Jean, Eric Clapton, Lauryn Hill, Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty and Dave Matthews, the album and the single "Smooth" hit No. 1 and in 2000 and a second single, "Maria Maria," also topped the charts.
An Intimate Evening with SANTANA Greatest Hits Live features songs that span the performer's entire career.
