He's the Merchant of Venom, the King of the Insult -- a comedian whose acid tongue makes audiences squirm. Don Rickles is never without a quick-witted barb.

With an early ambition to become a dramatic actor, Rickles realized his calling was in stand-up comedy when he began performing at various clubs in Manhattan where he mixed his stand-up with impressions of famous actors of the day such as Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney and Cary Grant.

And while Rickles knew he was funny, it wasn’t until a performance in a strip club where he unconventionally discovered his niche when he unleashed all his frustrations through insult comedy at a group of rowdy sailors, which left his crowd in hysterical laughter.

Soon after, Rickles found himself climbing the comedic ladder to fame as he began appearing in mainstream television programs and performing in Los Angeles and Las Vegas with the likes of Frank Sinatra and other notable friends dropping in to catch his act. After an appearance on Johnny Carson's "The Tonight Show," he quickly became a headliner act.
