The country crooner also has a knack for writing: He co-wrote 2005’s “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” for Trace Adkins and in 2007, Johnson received Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association awards for co-writing George Strait’s 2007 hit, “Give It Away.”
Johnson made his debut with the single, “The Dollar,” the title track from his 2006 album. But his career reached new heights with 2008’s “That Lonesome Song.” Hit singles from this disc included “In Color” and “High Cost of Living.” The talented artist garnered numerous accolades from "Rolling Stone," "The New York Times," "The Wall Street Journal," "The Washington Post," "Esquire" and "The Los Angeles Times."
“That Lonesome Song” drew a lot of attention, including an invite from Willie Nelson to play at Farm Aid’s music festival along with appearances on Jay Leno and David Letterman. In 2009, the album went gold. The song, “In Color” won Song of the Year from both ACM and CMA. Since then, Johnson has received five Grammy nods.
Released in 2010, “The Guitar Song” reached gold status and went to No. 1 on the U.S. country charts. His latest album, “Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran” and the title track were released in 2012.
