Famous for poking fun about everyday life, dating experiences and celebrities, comedian Kathy Griffin is often the subject of her own humor
Her hit Bravo reality show, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” is a perfect example. The show (in which she both starred in and produced) spotlights the life of being a minor celebrity in Hollywood. The show debuted in 2005 and ran six seasons. She won two Emmy Awards for the series.
The Illinois native began her career in the early 1980s in an improv comedy troupe. She established a name for herself in the popular '90s sitcom, “Suddenly Susan.” In 1998, she starred in her first one-hour HBO special, “Kathy Griffin: A Hot Cup of Talk.” Since then, Griffin performed in a string of specials. Her 2009 memoir, “Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin” debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times Bestseller List.
She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album in 2009, 2010 and 2011. In March 2011 she made her Broadway debut in "Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony."
The comedian has since appeared in TV shows like “Glee,” “The View,” “America’s Next Top Model” and “Drop Dead Diva,” to name a few. Her late-night talk show, “Kathy” debuted April 2012.
Griffin is recognized as one of the top female comedians in the United States and became the first comedian to have four television specials in a year. And while her style isn’t for everyone, those loving sarcasm, political criticism, and outspoken humor will be impressed.
