Edmonds is the fifth of six brothers. He was shy in his childhood years and wrote songs to express his emotions. After losing his father to lung cancer (leaving his mother to raise the sons alone), Edmonds was determined to have a career in music.
Funk musician Bootsy Collins gave Edmonds the nickname “Babyface” because of his youthful appearance as a teen. One of Edmonds' first major credits as a songwriter was 1983’s “Slow Jam,” performed by R&B group Midnight Star.
To date, he has written and produced more than 20 No. 1 R&B hits. The talented singer also had several hits of his own, including “Whip Appeal,” the Grammy Award-winning song, “When Can I See You” and “Every Time I Close My Eyes.” He also collaborated with Jon B on the popular song, “Someone To Love.”
During his career, he has worked with artists such as the late Whitney Houston, After 7, The Deele, Az Yet, Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, Vanessa Williams, Janet Jackson, Tamia, TLC and Mary J. Blige, among others.
