Known to many as "America's foremost commentator on everything," comedian Lewis Black turns his frustrations into a source of comedy. On stage, the veteran comic works himself into a frenzy by spouting complaints about subjects like politics, religion, trends and why there's a Starbucks on every corner. Audiences can't help but laugh at Black's poignant observations.
A Grammy Award winner, Black rose to fame for his satirical commentary on the perils of everyday life on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." He was also a frequent visitor to the "Conan O'Brien Show." Black's growing popularity landed the comedian his own show on Comedy Central, "Lewis Black's Root of All Evil."
While his rants are for entertainment, Black has merit to him name. The Maryland-born comedian has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Yale School of Drama, and has authored more thanĀ 40 plays that have been produced in theaters around the country. He was also the first recipient of the NYCC Award for Distinctive Contribution to the Arts in 1999.
And you thought that commentator title was self-appointed.
Black has appeared in numerous TV shows, including "Murphy Brown," "Mad About You" and "Homicide: Life on the Street." Film credits include roles in "Hannah and Her Sisters," "Jacob's Ladder," "The Hard Way" and "The Night We Never Met," and he is a sought-after stand-up act.
