Mickey Gilley

A country music artist and nightclub entrepreneur, Mickey Gilley has found success in multiple arenas. His illustrious career includes 39 Top 10 country hit songs with 17 of those reaching No. 1 on the charts. Some of his biggest hit songs include "Don't The Girls All Get Prettier At Closing Time," Roomful of Roses," "I Overlooked An Orchid" and "City Lights." Gilley also has a nightclub legacy tied to his name.

In 1971 Gilley helped create the landmark Texas nightclub, Gilley's Club. It became known as the "world's largest honky-tonk." After the release of the John Travolta movie, Gilley's Club was a driving force behind the "Urban Cowboy" crazy that swept the country in the early 1980s. The club burned down in 1989, but its legacy would live on. A new bigger and better Gilley's Dallas was built containing a 2,000-seat showroom where national acts could play. A Gilley's also popped up on the Las Vegas Strip at the New Frontier Hotel. The club closed when the Frontier was imploded, but that was only a temporary departure. The club soon re-opened at the Treasure Island where it continues to lure revelers looking to kick up their boots and have a little fun.
