Panda! takes two of China's national treasures -- pandas and kung fu -- and unites them in a stunning stage production. The show, the first authentic Chinese production on the Strip, takes audiences on a journey of love and personal growth in a mythical realm of Far Eastern folklore.
Panda! follows LongLong, a friendly panda, on an adventurous mission to rescue his beloved Peacock Princess from the evil Demon Vulture, who has kidnapped her on their wedding day. LongLong, who is played by various artists throughout the show, seeks counsel from the Immortal Old Man, who teaches him kung fu and prepares him for the dangerous mission to save the princess. Along the way, LongLong seeks help and learns new skills from various other characters who are portrayed by traditional Chinese artists.
Panda! features talented performers from the China National Acrobatic Troupe, the China Star Dance Troupe and the Shaolin Monastery Kung Fu Monks Troupe.
Many traditional Chinese arts are showcased in Panda! Audiences will see breathtaking acrobatics, artists balancing precariously on poles, juggling, traditional martial arts, drumming, aerial acts, beautiful dances incorporating parasols and fans and a little bit of magic.
The climax of the show comes when the gold painted Shaolin fighters display their acrobatic skills with swords and knives and break wooden sticks over their bare heads. One of the fighters is only 7 years old and leaves audiences in awe of his tumbling skills.
The show is produced by An Zhao, who helped direct the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. If you saw the ceremonies you know you'll be seeing brilliantly colored costumes and lots of visually stimulating effects in Panda! The show uses an impressive multilayered LED wall and screens with colorful projections.
Panda! also features audience interaction and audience members get a close-up view of characters who enter the stage by walking through the theater or descending from the ceiling. The show is suitable for all ages. Children will enjoy the costumed panda characters while adults will appreciate the artistry and skill of the performers.
