The Strip's newest tease will take you back in time to an era of wartime rations, pin curls and the jitterbug. Pin Up is more than an homage to 1940s calendar girls — it's a full-fledged time-warp, complete with song and dance, that will send you searching for your Rosie the Riveter bandana or bolting for your Cold War bunker.
Host Claire Sinclair, Playboy's 2011 Playmate of the Year, brings a kind of tentative charm that hints at what might happen if pin up girls could really come to life. True to the time it represents, the whole show is a tug-of-war between sexy suggestion and social taboo.
Stratosphere headliner Frankie Moreno co-produced Pin Up and wrote and arranged the music, which includes period pieces, original tunes and a few contemporary hits refigured to match the show's vintage style. The Stratosphere Theatre, which opened in 1996 but is styled like an old Vegas showroom, is the perfect venue for this production's nostalgic notes.
The dancers — four "calendar girls" and one incredibly hard-working gentleman — clearly win the day in this production. They all spin and swing at breakneck speed, and individual numbers show off their special talents. (One girl's incredible acrobatic pole dance and another's tap-off with the stage band's drummer had us cheering.)
Choreographer Lacey Schwimmer ("Dancing with the Stars") ensured that Pin Up will be a high-energy hit. Swing back to yesteryear with the glamour and glitz of Pin Up live in Las Vegas.
