Sinbad

Comedian and actor Sinbad grew up in Benton Harbor, Mich., telling jokes to his three brothers and two sisters.

He started telling jokes for money in 1983, when he embarked on his "Poverty Tour," going from club to club on a Greyhound bus, working for meals.

Sinbad's break was on "Star Search" in the mid '80s. He was never a winner, but he was good enough to get on the show seven times and become a finalist. That led to a role as Redd Foxx's son on "The New Redd Foxx Show."

His next big break came from Bill Cosby, who cast him in the sitcom "A Different World."

Sinbad embarked on the "Share the Dream Tour" of historically black colleges in 1991. As executive producer and head writer, Sinbad developed an outrageously funny variety show -- "Sinbad & Friends All the Way Live ... Almost." He also starred in "Aliens for Breakfast," a children's special for ABC Television.

Sinbad made his big screen debut in the 1991 comedy "Necessary Roughness." His other motion picture credits include a starring role in "Houseguest" and appearances in "Coneheads," ""First Kid," "Jingle All the Way" and "Good Burger." Sinbad was also star and executive producer of his own acclaimed Fox TV sitcom, "The Sinbad Show."

In 2010, he had a short-lived appearance on the "Celebrity Apprentice," getting the boot from Donald Trump on the second episode. In 2013 Sinbad voiced Roper in the animated film "Planes" and had a guest role on the adult animated series "American Dad!"
