Acclaimed a capella group Straight No Chaser formed in 1996 at Indiana University. The 10 original students earned gigs performing at Wrigley Field and Navy Pier, opening for Lou Rawls and playing at Carnegie Hall.
The original members stayed together until 1999, when new students joined to replace graduating members.
The original group eventually reformed and in 2006 a recording of "The 12 Days of Christmas" was posted on YouTube, which received more than 15 million views. The CEO of Atlantic Records saw the video and asked the group to record a new album.
In 2008, eight of the original members, along with two new members, recorded a Christmas album, "Holiday Spirits." After several television appearances including "The Today Show," it became the No. 1-selling album on both the iTunes and Amazon.com charts.
After a few lineup changes, Straight No Chaser taped a live concert special in New York City during 2009 that was aired on that city's PBS stations.
Straight No Chaser released an EP of six songs in 2009 titled "Six Pack." In November 2009 they released their second Christmas album. They released their first non-Christmas album, "With a Twist," in 2010. The album includes a song featuring Barry Manilow.
Straight No Chaser's latest release, "Under the Influence," sees the group reimagining a selection of their all-time favorite songs alongside many of the artists and music icons that made them famous.
