With classics including "Mr. Roboto" and "Babe," the rock band Styx is bringing their unique concert experience to The Pearl Theater inside of the Palms Casino Resort. The performance will feature music from their two most legendary albums, "The Grand Illusion" and "Pieces of Eight."
Composed of Tommy Shaw, James "J.Y." Young, Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillips (along with the occasional surprise appearance by original bassist Chuck Panozzo), the group has performed more live since 1999 than all of the previous years of the group's combined career.
Styx is known for their countless hit songs, including "Come Sail Away" and "Fooling Yourself," both featured on 1977's "The Grand Illusion." More of their classics, "Blue Color Man" and "Renegade," were singles from "Pieces of Eight" released in 1978.
The group started in a suburban Chicago basement in the early '70s. In late 1974, WLS-FM in Chicago began playing the song "Lady" from "Styx II." The song became a monster local hit and prompted other stations nationwide to begin playing it, making the group a mainstream sensation.
The band's hits kept coming during the '70s and '80s. The group was one of the most popular live acts around. For instance, 1981's "Paradise Theatre" was yet another triple-platinum success, reaching No. 1 on the strength of Top 10 hits such as "Best of Times" and "Too Much Time on My Hands."
Two years later Styx returned with "Kilroy Was Here," which featured the hits "Mr. Roboto" and "Don't Let It End."
In 1984 the group broke up, and many of the band members pursued successful solo careers. Six years later, the group reformed and released "Edge of the Century" in 1990. The album spawned a No. 3 hit "Show Me the Way."
At their upcoming show in Vegas, Styx will give fans a chance to hear beloved hits songs from two of their biggest albums performed live in the Entertainment Capital of the World.
