Named after the cocktail of whiskey, vermouth and bitters, The Manhattans formed in the early 60s and were then led by Winfred "Blue" Lovett, who composed some of the groups biggest hits. Their first hit on the Billboard charts was in 1964 with the Top 20 song, "I Wanna Be (Your Everything)," the first of eight singles for the group, nearly all charting among the top 30.
The recordings of "Shining Star," "Crazy" and the cover of Same Cooke's "You Send Me" kept The Manhattans at the top of the charts into the early 80s and they continued to release new music throughout the 80's, into the 90's and also a single in 2001, "Nites Like This."
