Downtown Las Vegas Restaurants

Downtown Las Vegas dining is evolving so fast, it has likely changed before you can read this sentence. Sure, the old-school favorites still hold their special charm: Binion's Steak House. The Golden Nugget BuffetHugo's Cellar. But the burgeoning Downtown renaissance of cocktail lounges and hipster hangouts has also brought a welcome serving of food. Good food. And frequently, great food. more...
Of course, there's the current farm-to-table movement, and you'll find some of that Downtown. But there's also gourmet pizza. Thoughtful Thai. Funky burgers. Nuvo Mexican. Even chicken and waffles. And, like we said, it's getting better by the minute, with new restaurants popping up on every corner, and seemingly every week.
The best restaurants in Las Vegas are no longer just on the Strip. Among the new lights on this end of the Boulevard: Eat. Le Thai. Pizza Rock. The Commissary at Downtown GrandTriple George Grill. La Comida. Park on Fremont. And many more.
Back in the day, Downtown Las Vegas was always the place to hang. Legendary mobster Bugsy Siegel ran the club at the center of it all, the El Cortez. Now listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, the El Cortez is still a hub, feisty and refurbished, and anchoring the newly revitalized Fremont East.
The restaurant offerings were limited, though. Coffee shops, buffets and the occasional top-tier steak house notwithstanding. It was beef, bargains and a general feeling that you should get back to your slot machine before someone took your seat.
Nowadays, tourists and locals alike are heading Downtown just for the food. And if that isn't evolution, we don't know what is.
