Show Review

Dynamic duo

By Caroline Fontein

Donny & Marie features the duo's greatest hits in a variety show spectacular brought to life with multimedia and a large cast of dancers.

Donny Osmond has spent 30 years entertaining audiences through his careers in song, theater and television.

He started out as a child singer, performing with his brothers on the "Andy Williams Show." The Osmond brothers were a successful "teenybopper" act and Donny was the centerpiece, eventually embarking on a solo career.

He was one of the most successful pop artists of the '70s, earning 18 gold records and several top 10 hits like "Go Away Little Girl."

That decade, he also teamed with his sister Marie for the weekly TV variety show "The Donny & Marie Show." The duo were the youngest hosts ever of a primetime network series. The two teamed up once again in 1998 for the nationally syndicated daytime talk show "Donny & Marie."

The only girl of nine children, Marie Osmond was destined to create a path of her own. Drawn to country and Western, Osmond distinguished herself from her brothers who had all found success in pop music. At the age of 13 she topped the charts with "Paper Roses," which she received a Grammy nomination for.

A duet with brother Donny on "I'm Leavin' It All Up To You" led to their wildly popular variety show.

In 2007, she appeared as a celebrity contestant on the ABC series "Dancing with the Stars," finishing in third place with her partner Jonathan Roberts.

Their show at Flamingo starts with a big bang as Donny and Marie appear on stage accompanied by a band. Flashy back-up dancers add an extra element of pizzaz to the duo's already explosive performances.

Between the singing and dancing, Donny and Marie throw in some good old-fashioned ribbing about who is supposed to be front and center and which one of them is showing their age more after decades of performing together. Everyone in the audience laughs as they jokingly make fun of one another.

Apart from their performances together the show breaks up into segments that highlight Donny and Marie's careers as solo artists. They sing, dance and dazzle the audience as they perform more of their greatest hits.

Their endearing personalities and timeless music bring smiles to everyone's faces. Even if you are not familiar with this dynamic sibling duo, their incredible talent as performers creates a fun dose of entertainment that everyone can enjoy.
