Drift Spa Review
Las Vegas is known for, among other things, its dry heat. But at the Drift Spa at Palms Place, the heat is getting a little wetter. The spa is home to the city's first Hammam, an innovative, coed Turkish bath where ambient heat and steam intertwine for the ultimate in relaxation.
The two-story spa has more than 20 treatment rooms, including couples treatment rooms with private gardens. There are also indoor hot and cool soaking pools, steam room, sauna, full-service changing facilities and private outdoor garden lounges. The décor combines warm hues of gold, burgundy and earth tones with wood and other richly textured furnishings.
Jennifer Noble, director of Drift Spa, said her aim is to provide an intimate and cozy experience. "We want people to walk in and feel like they got hugged," said Noble.
The Hammam blends ancient traditions with modern design, providing a meeting place of cleansing and nourishment to both men and women. The room has a slight Moroccan feel with rich brown and tan mosaic tiles, curved walls, booth benches and a pool-shaped, heated stone slab in the center. The temperature in the Hammam stays between 86 and 96 degrees, lower than that of a sauna, enabling people to remain inside longer and making it more of a social experience.
Another aspect that sets Drift Spa apart from many other Las Vegas spas is the liberal use of windows throughout the facility. This infusion of nature provides the ultimate retreat experience.
Drift Spa has a full menu of massages, facials and other body remedies. One of the spa's more unique services is the Drift Away Treatment, a two-hour-long therapy that combines a body scrub, wrap and a mini facial.
Those new to massage will enjoy the classic Drift Massage, a Swedish massage that uses long, rhythmic strokes and kneading techniques to increase circulation, reduce muscle tension and relieve stress. The Ashiatsu Deep Barefoot Massage is a good choice for the physically fit customer and those who enjoy being walked on.
Drift Spa also caters to men with its gentlemen's escape menu, featuring services such as the 80 minute Men's 'Half Time' Head to Toe face and body treatment that combines an herbal mask, scrub, massage and a steamed towel compress for the whole body.
Valet parking is available at Palms Place for direct access to the spa enclave, which includes the famed L.A. Sunset Tan, Michael Boychuck's Primp Salon and a workout facility that overlooks the Las Vegas Strip. Along with state-of-the-art tanning beds, L.A. Sunset Tan offers spray-on Mystic tans for those who are not ready to commit to long-term tanning.
